Canaan Wins 4-3 in OT Against Craftsbury

CRAFTSBURY – The Craftsbury Academy Lady Chargers suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss against Canaan Memorial High School. After leading 1-0 at the half thanks to an Olivia Jones goal, the game was a see-saw affair moving forward. Shortly after Canaan tied the game at 1, Melanie Sergiev put the Chargers on top once again, 2-1. Canaan High continued to fight and knotted the game at 2-2 with just over 20 minutes remaining. Freshman Meghan Brown put Craftsbury on top for the 3rd time in the game, but the lead was short lived as Canaan knotted the game at 3; sending the game into sudden-death overtime. Just 6 minutes into the first sudden-death overtime period, Canaan scored, ending the game and handing the Lady Chargers a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. After the game Coach Ashley Maxfield was pleased with her team’s performance, but upset with the outcome. “It was a very tough game, Canaan is a good squad, they beat us 5-0 last time, so I thought we fought really hard this game. The loss was tough on these girls, though. They have been fighting so hard lately and I am very proud of them. It just wasn’t our day today.”The Chargers will get back to action Friday, October 7th, when they travel to Plainfield, to take Twinfield Union High School. Kickoff is set for 4 o’clock.
