DERBY - Karen Jenne has served as the Derby Line Village Clerk, treasurer and delinquent tax collector for many years, but all that ended Tuesday evening at the annual village meeting. Sue Best, a Derby Lister, wanted to nominate Claudia Letourneau, but Letourneau was not a registered voter in Derby Line in time to qualify as a candidate. In a surprise move, Best nominated Sharon Booth, a two-year village resident. About 50 residents turned out, the largest amount in recent history, even though there are about 450 registered voters. And it appeared many just showed up to vote for the positions held by Jenne. Before voting time, Best accused Jenne of harassing and intimidating Letourneau. The moderator, Ralph Miko, had instructed Jenne to call Letourneau and tell her she was not qualified to run, noting that he didn’t want embarrassment at the meeting. For more of this story, see Thursday's edition of The Newport Daily Express for April 4, 2013.
