HOLLAND – The Holland Elementary School went into a modified lock-down Thursday morning following the termination of an employee. The lock down will last two days.No threats had been made as of Thursday afternoon, Principal Linda Phelan said. The school already locks its doors to the building and each classroom door. The new measure calls for keeping the students inside for recess and during afterschool programs. Parents were notified over the Alert Now phone system, which calls all parents at the same time and gives a message.Phelan said that law enforcement is aware of the situation and a state trooper came by the school to have lunch with the students. The trooper is well known in the community through sports. Phelan declined to give any further details. For more of this story, see Friday's edition of The Newport Daily Express for April 5, 2013.
