MMU Tops NCU Girls 2-0

JERICHO– A physical but clean contest went in favor of the Cougars of Mount Mansfield on Friday, as they were able to avoid an early onslaught and defeat the Falcons in girls soccer action on Friday.“We had about four real quality chances early,” said Coach Alexander, “We hit the cross bar, and were not able to score on the others.”The senior laden Cougars bounced back from the striking Falcons, and with two and a half minutes to go in the half they were able to to beat Lindsay Geoffrey off of a scramble in front of the NCU net.Alexander says the Falcons came out flat for the second thirty minutes and played what he called “an uninspired half.”Making matters worse was the loss of senior Kate Meunier, who was hurt in mid field and had to leave the game. Meunier’s status for the Falcons next game remains uncertain. The Cougars would cap off the scoring at the twenty-three minute mark to seal the 2-0 victory.“We are still feeling things out,” says Alexander, “If we would have scored (on the early chances) maybe things would have been different. But this is definitely a learning experience.”Geoffrey had 9 saves in the contest while the Falcons were able to generate six shots against MMU.Next up is a trip St. Johnsbury to challenge the Hilltoppers Tuesday afternoon at 4:30.
