North Country Snowboarders Wrap Up Season at State Meets

North Country had a solid year of riding and competing during the 2014 season, despite the beginning of the season being full of weather-related cancellations. A team that maintains a strong philosophy developed by their coaches Natalie Guillette and Ryan Anderson, allowed the athletes to focus on being good citizens, while also maintaining their physical and mental health, as all athletes should. Their season allowed them to raise money for the NEKCA Foodshelf in conjunction with Jay Peak Resort’s movie night and The National Cancer Society through Jay Peak Resort’s hosting of Hope on the Slopes (a record-breaking fundraising year for cancer research!). They also allowed for practices to align with NC Hospital’s Wellness Center and Casey Baraw’s Inspired Yoga classes. The 2014 High School Snowboarding State Championships were held at both Okemo and Killington Resorts on March 5 & 6 this year to accommodate for all three official events. The Half Pipe was at Okemo on the 5th while the Grand Slalom and Slopestyle were at Killington the following day. A cold and beautiful day greeted the athletes as they unloaded the shuttles at Killington, all pumped for a day of showing their best riding at our last competition of the season. Ian Major, for the boys team, placed 4th overall for the Slopestyle event while the girls team won first place overall for the Slopestyle, making their coaches very proud and already re-energized for next season.
