The Opioid Epidemic: Inmates

Staff Writer

The opioid epidemic sweeping Vermont and the rest of the United States knows no boundaries - it gets into the finest homes and neighborhoods, into the back alleys and streets of the nation, and yes - even into our jails.
There are approximately 1,500 inmates in Vermont's seven prisons. (Plus another 250 inmates placed in out-of-state prisons.)
The largest of Vermont's prisons is the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport, with an inmate population of more than 400.
Among those inmates are many who are suffering from addiction. (Part 4 in Paul Stuart’s series Thursday in the Express)
