The man accused of firing a gun in Barton and making threats to shoot people while sending area schools into lock down was ordered to undergo a competency evaluation by the courts at his arraignment Tuesday. Max Pickel, 30, of the Orleans and Barton area pleaded innocent to a felony charge of unlawful trespass of a residence, and misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, and aggravated disorderly conduct by making threats of violence. Judge Howard VanBenthuysen kept bail at $2,500 and placed several conditions on Pickel if released.
